Who Is Alan Webber?

No, I am not the Alan Webber that started Fast Company, though my bank account sometimes wishes I were.

I am an independent technology analyst and thought leader focused on eGovernment and the B2B digital world.

I believe that technology is an enabler that has the potential to move government and the governed closer together. I am interested in how new technologies like social media and the evolving digital channel, shifting social behavior, and regulatory and other inherently unique aspects to government will impact the level and types of engagement. I analyze how disruptive forces such as evolving technologies, mobility, social networks, Web 2.0, and digital communities will change the future of eGovernment.

I am also keenly interested in cleantech, green IT, strategy and scenario planning, and emerging trends and technologies. I am a long time believer that technology is not only part of the problem, it is a foundation for a solution when it comes to environmental issues. Lastly, both because of some of my formal training in scenarios, game theory, and forecasting, along with my perspective about the world and social change, I focus on the future. I don’t believe that anyone can tell you definitively what will happen a year from now, or for that matter, even what will happen tomorrow. But I do believe that there are signs and indications of where we are headed if our eyes are open to seeing them.

Formerly, I was a Principal Analyst at Forrester Research serving B2B and government online professionals and Web strategists. My research and writing covered Web site design, improving the user experience, decision and management tools for Web managers, employing Web 2.0 tools, and developing and implementing strategies to engage with customers online. Prior, I was a government analyst at Forrester focusing on eGovernment and making sense of the government market for technology vendors.

Many of my articles and interviews have been widely quoted in the mainstream media and industry press including B2B Magazine, Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Government Computer News, Congressional Quarterly, B2B Magazine, CIO Magazine, CIO Today, Government Technology, and French CIO Magazine.

Before joining my colleagues at Forrester I served as a strategic planner, performance manager, and eGovernment manager in the US Federal government. While working in the Federal government, most of my work focused on large-scale cross-agency strategic planning and performance management efforts, and eGovernment.
